40th COSPAR Scientific Assembly successfully finished its work at MSU

The 40th Scientific Assembly of the International Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) went over at MSU with great success is closed now. 2274 scientists from 74 countries took part in it. Over 2000 oral presentations and 7 interdisciplinary lectures were made. The Local Organizing Committee organized two public lectures - by MSU Rector, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy and RAS President, Academician Vladimir Fortov. Several press-conferences were held during the Assembly.

Transient fluorescence of the Earth's atmosphere was detected by the scientific equipment "RELEC"

"Currently all the instruments of the "RELEC" scientific complex are switched on in testing mode. Our objective is to make sure that they are operated correctly. <...> The first transients are "catched". We see that the instruments are operated in a proper way," - SINP Director and the Head of the "RELEC" project, Professor Mikhail Panasyuk told us during the press-conference on July 8, organized within the frames of COSPAR Assembly.

The satellites were launched in Moscow region

At the beginning of June the satellites were launched in Moscow region. It was not an ordinary launching - the Third championship "CanSat in Russia" took place there. The name of these satellites is originated from "Can" and "Satellite", because the satellite can be placed into the soda water can. The idea of such satellites came from the USA, and the SINP scientists have catched it up and adopted.

The developed series of models describes the real phenomena in the Earth’s magnetosphere

Series of models that adequately describe both real processes in thin current sheets in the Earth’s magnetosphere and their properties is proposed. The obtained modelling results are not only confirmed by satellite observations, but can also predict them. Corresponding reports will be done on 40-th Scientific Assembly of the International Committee for space research (COSPAR) by Helmi Malova, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, senior research scientist of the Scobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear physics of Lomonosov Moscow State University (NPI MSU) and leading research scientist of Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS).
