Laboratory of symbolic calculations in high energy physics
The Laboratory of symbolic calculations in high energy physics (LSCHEP) was established in 1983. From the beginning it was leaded by Professor, DSc. Viktor Savrin. In 1990 the Department of theoretical high-energy physics (DTHEP) was organized on the basis of the Laboratory, and the Laboratory became a part of this Department under the leadership DSc. Vyacheslav Ilyin.
Now the Laboratory includes 10 researchers, among whome there are 1 DSc. and 8 PhD.
From the very beginning of its activity the main goal of the Laboratory was development and application of computer methods in high energy physics. Currently the scientists of the Laboratory carry out research in the following directions:
• calculations of different physical values taking into accout multiloop corrections in quantum theory by means if recurrence relations. Within the frames of this approach a number of record which allowed to make significant contribution to the understanding of modern particle physics;
• development of software packages for calculation of characteristics of elementary particles interactions in Standard Model and beyond it. Within the frames of this direction two program complexes are being developed: CompHEP (historically first program) and CalcHEP. Both of them became a frequent practice in the world, and each of them has about thousand references;
• a program micrOMEGA intended for calculations of particles interactions, which could explain dark matter phenomenon, was develop on the basis of CalcHEP. This program is also gained recognition in the world and has about 500 references;
• development and application of the methods of computer algebra in cosmological models inspired by string theory;
• development of the methods for studying of non-linear differential equations systems;
• national segment of GRID was developed since 2002 within collaboration with CERN. This segment is used for the procession and analysis of LHC data (project Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, WLCG). Discovery of Higgs bozon in cooperation with other WLCS participants in 2012 became an outstanding result of this activity;
• since 2008 within the frames of Federal Program in Nanotechnologies the scientists of the Laboratory develop software for Grid-infrastructure of the National nanotechnological web. This project is the major of such-like ones which unites in a single Grid all leading supercomputer centers.
The scientists of the Laboratory work in close cooperation with the leading Russian and foreign scientific centers, including CERN, FNAL, LAPTh, DESI, JINR, Kurchatov Institute, IHEP.
They take part in the major international projects and colaborations, such as European Grid Infrastructure (EGI), Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS CERN), Woldwide LHC Computing Grid (WLCG). They also implement state contracts within the frames of different Federal target programs, and regularly win grants of Russian Foundation for Basic Research.
The results of the studies carried out in the Laboratory were used for a number of diploma projects of the students of Physical Faculty and PhD. thesis.
