Laboratory of ion-beam nanotechnology

The Laboratory of ion-beam nanotechnology (LIBNT) was organized in March 2006. In September 2007 on its base a Joint laboratory of Department of Physics MSUm SINP MSU and JSC "Tenzor" was organized. The Laboratory is headed by Professor, DSc. Vladimir Chernysh.

At the end of 20th century a new direction of the studies of interaction of energy flow and the matter - interaction of multi-charged and cluster ions - started its development in the leading scientific centers of the world. Density of the energy released inside nano-sized volume near the surface at the collisions of such ions increase for several orders of mabnitude in comparison with the interaction of atomic ions. This extreme coditions can result in new physical phenomena which were not observed at bombardment of the solid bodies with atomic ions. Therefore one of the objectives of the Laboratory is to develop an accelerator of gaseous cluster ions and studies of interaction of the accelerated clusters and the matter.

The scientists of the Laboratory are also specialized in the studies of the processes of production of nanostructures and nanoobjects at implantation of atomic ions and development of ion-beam methods for diagnosis of such structures.

Within the frames of scientific directions of the Laboratory its scientists have developed and manufactured an accelerator of gaseous cluster ions for energy of 20 keV. In January 2008 by means of finnancial support of the "Tenzor" Company an accelerator of heavy ions produced by High Voltage Engineering Europe Compaby was purchased. On its base an ion accelerating complex for energy up to 500 keV is developed in the Laboratory.

During 2010-2012 within the frames of commercial research projects studies on the development of the production technology for ultra-thin Si films on sapphire were conducted in cooperation with the Institute of Material Sciences (Zelenograd).

In May 2011 an Agreement between SINP MSU and the Insitute of Nuclear Sciences "Vincha" intended for joint studies of the interaction of multi-charged ions with matter was signed.

The scientists of the Laboratory were the scientific directors of 12 diplomas of the MSU students and of 2 PhD. thesis.
